Meet The Walindi Plantation Resort Staff

MAX / Proprietor
Max Benjamin first came to PNG in 1966 as an Agricultural officer with the Australian Government. He purchased Walindi Plantation at the end of 1969 and replanted the property with oil palm. In the early 1970’s he started exploring the reefs in Kimbe Bay and quickly discovered some of the world’s finest diving right on Walindi’s doorstep. By 1983 there were 2 bungalows for guests and Walindi was on it’s way to becoming a renowned International dive resort. Today Walindi has 12 bungalows and a plantation house with 4 en-suite budget-style rooms. Max keeps the place running and travels to dive shows around the globe promoting Walindi, the M/V FeBrina and the M/V Star Dancer— the newest addition to Walindi family.
CECILE / Proprietor
Cecile Benjamin came to PNG is 1972 to work for the Department of Agriculture after graduating with a degree is Agricultural Science, she was the first woman in PNG to qualify as a scuba diving instructor (F.A.U.I.) in 1982. These days Cecile runs a gift shop at the resort and is Walindi’s resident history buff—knowledgeable about all the details of local wrecks on land and underwater, as well as countess other bits and pieces of local lore.
JOSEPH / Dive Operations Manager
Joseph, originally from Madang, started diving and working in the tourism industry in 1993. He became a PADI divemaster in 1998 and managed the diving operation at Malolo Resort in Madang before coming to Walindi in 1999. Joseph is often out of the boats diving as well, but his main job is keeping the dive operation running and the divers smiling.
ANTON / Dive Equipment Manager
Anton is a PADI Divemaster and equipment manager. He’s usually found either on the boats or in the dive shed looking after tanks and dive gear. Anton is from Kilu, a nearby village, and has been at Walindi since 1996.
KEIKO / Dive Instructor & dive guide
Keiko is Walindi’s resident Japanese instructor. Keiko works as a dive guide and translator to all Japanese guests that visit the resort. She particularly enjoys blue water diving and is particularly lucky at finding hammerheads at the seamounts. She is also a great ‘critter hunter’ and can usually find Pygmy seahorses, Harlequin ghost pipefish and other exotic creatures. Keiko is a NAUI Instructor and has been at Walindi since 2000.
